Alfen: Enable QR Code for Direct Payment (AFIR Compliant)

Since Alfen firmware release 6.6, Alfen introduced the “Direct payment solutions” feature. This allows you to use certain payment solutions on your Alfen station, such as a QR code. In this article, you will learn how to enable this in EVC-net.

For more technical information about this feature and list of supported charge points, visit A.F.I.R. implementation guide – Installation – Alfen Knowledge Base

What do you need to get started?

  • Ensure you have access to the LMS direct payment web app. If unsure, contact our support team. Read more about the Direct Payment Web-App here.
  • Updated charger to firmware version 6.6
  • QR Code links from EVC-net (for each socket)

Step 1: Apply license key from Alfen

When you purchase the additional service of direct payment solutions from Alfen, you will receive a license key.

  1. Copy the license key received from Alfen
  2. Open the charge point in EVC-net
  3. Go to Parameters
  4. Scroll down to “Unlocked features” field
  5. Check if the “Payment solutions” is added
  6. If yes, continue to step 2
  7. If not, go to “FeatureLicenseKey” field:
    • Paste in the license key received from Alfen
    • Click on “select” and “save and send selected parameters”
    • Go back and double check payment solutions is added in “Unlocked features”

Step 2: Set up the QR codes

                    1. Open the charge point
                    2. Scroll down to the “Channels” section
                    3. Copy the QR Code link for each of the sockets
                    4. Go to Parameters
                    5. Fill in the QR code links in the following fields:
                      • QRcodeURL1 – fill in the QR code link of the Channel 1
                      • QRcodeURL2 – fill in the QR code link of the Channel 2
                    6. Go to “UniqueQRconfiguration” field and fill in Alfen
                    7. Fill in “DPSConfiguredMethods”: QR
                    8. Click “select” next to each parameter you adjusted and “save and send selected parameters”

Step 3: Set up the pricing

The price in the charge group is not automatically shown on the screen, hence, it needs to be set up manually in the parameters. Keep in mind, the price in the parameters needs to include VAT.

                                      1. In the parameters, go to:
                                        • Pricing-EnergyPrice price.kWh – fill in the decimal Price per kWh
                                        • Pricing-StartPrice price.session – fill in the decimal Price to start a session
                                        • Pricing-MinutePrice price.minute – fill in the decimal Price per minute
                                      1. Go to: “Pricing-ShowDisclaimer” and fill in “False” – due to AFIR regulations, this field should always be set as false, otherwise it implies there are hidden costs applicable.
                                      2. Go to “AuthorizeRemoteTxRequest” and tick it
                                      3. Click “select” next to each parameter you adjusted and “save and send selected parameters”
