A single Edge controller can control any (combination) of the following chargepoints
OCPP1.6 charge points
Edge uses OCPP1.6-Json for communication to OCPP1.6 enabled charge points. The other required specifications for these chargepoints are:
- Communication should happen over Ethernet (Not GSM)
- The station should support ocpp charging profiles
There are no vendor or charge point-firmware constraints. Please note that the correct functioning of the OCPP protocol is essential of successful load balancing. If this is not the case it is possible that load balancing with a new station will not work right out of the box.
Edge has been designed to cope with different OCPP-”dialects”. If you encounter problems when adding the charge point to Edge you can contact support.
Ecotap Controllers in LMS mode
The Ecotap controllers communicate using the LMS or OCPP1.6 protocol. When these controllers are configured in a master-slave setup the use of the LMS protocol is mandatory. In this configuration the Ecotap-master facilitates the communication of the canbus-connected slaves. Read more about the Ecotap controller setup on it’s dedicated page
With this protocol the supported Ecotap firmware versions are:
- 4.2 controllers with firmware-version 27.58 or 27.59
- 5.0 controllers are not officially supported!
Note that using another firmware will most likely result in incorrect working of the grid
EVBox stations
Edge has support for the EVBox G3 stations connected via a dedicated RS485 connection. A requirement is that there must be a physical RS485 cable between the Edge and each EVBox master. Optionally a TCP-RS485 converter tool can be used to connect the EVBox via local network.
These EVBox stations have the limitation that Edge only controls the power of the entire hub-satelite setup. So Edge cannot do prioritized charging or facilitate offline card authorizations.
